The Digital Age

I think we have begun to enter a new era. I would call it, probably, the digital era. I don't think that we have quite entered it yet, and if we have, we have only begun. Like this is the transition time between the past era and to the new one. Before it was only film, but now digital cameras have become a big thing and are being used more and more. It is an on going debate of whether we should stick to film or move forward to digital. I personally think it would be nice if we could keep both around, but for some reason that doesn't appear to be an option. Movies have taken a major technology advance, but not with just cameras but also computers and the internet. With the internet, you can watch anything if you look hard enough. There are sites everywhere, especially T.V. shows. It only takes 1 person to film it in a theater, record it from a DVD, and then just post it on the internet. Then it's out there and anyone can watch it. The internet has replaced movie theaters for most people, its turned into a kind of  movie theater, but it's free and so it appeals to a lot more people. Everything is just altogether more accessible to people. People can get editing software, cameras, and recording mics for not that much money. Everyone is creating now and trying to distribute.  We are being pulled into a new age/era.

The Gold Rush

As you may have noticed from the title above I watched the movie The Gold Rush, which was written and directed by Charlie Chaplin who also was the star of the movie. As I started researching the movie I read about how Chaplin would walk every actor, no matter how small or big, through every scene. He would direct them how to look, how to sound, and what they were doing. That then got me on the train of thought about the 5 senses. Sight, sound, smell, feeling/touch, and taste. Once you think about it almost all of the 5 senses has been incorporated into film. Sight, which has been there from the start. Sound, and smell eventually added (4-D). Then there's feeling, which you could interpret in several different ways. As an emotion, you seem to always be able to feel what another characters feeling, and as for touch there's 3-D, and even though you cannot actually touch it, it at least seems like you can. Then the 5th sense. The one that hasn't ever been incorporated. Taste. So I asked myself a question. What would The Gold Rush taste like? However the foods were endless so I limited myself down to; What would The Gold Rush taste like if it were a cupcake? That then occurred to me that that would be a lot of cupcakes. So I chose 5 things that seemed essential to the story.
Georgia, the Murderer/Robber, the blizzard/the fact that it's almost always snowing and cold, gold, and the New Years Eve.

CUPCAKE #1
This cupcake is a triple dark chocolate fudge, with hardened layered chocolate on the top. This cupcake is representing the murderer/robber. Murdering people is a dark thing, and bad thing, and another adjective that could be used is bitter. Dark chocolate can also be bitter.

 CUPCAKE #2
This cupcake represents Georgia. It is a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting and smashed red sprinkles on the top with lemon juice. Georgia's character is never made super clear wether she loves Charlie or not. Sometimes she seems like she does, but then other times it seems like she's with everyone else making fun of him. So the lemon is there to be sour and the cake to be sweet, in the hope that you can not decide wether the cupcake is sour or sweet.

CUPCAKE #3
A vanilla cupcake with carmel filling with vanilla/carmel frosting with more carmel on top, also golden sugar. It represents gold. Carmel to me is one of the sweetest foods. Though it's never happened to me, I've had the impression that when you find gold it's a really nice feeling, and nice could be replaced with sweet.

CUPCAKE #4
This cupcake represents New Years Eve. Another vanilla cupcake, with hardened sprinkle top and vanilla frosting and crazy stuff. New Years is a crazy night, lot's of stuff happens everywhere at once.

CUPCAKE #5

The blizzard. Image is Unavailable at the time because it has to stay in the freezer for now, but it is a vanilla cupcake with hardened candy cane bottom with mint chocolate chip ice-cream, and blue/green/purple sprinkles. When you think about lot's of snow, it reminds me of christmas, and christmas is often associated with peppermint or mint, which is why there's so much mint and peppermint.
